Hartel Veterinary Hospital was founded by Dr. Pat White an MSU College of Veterinary Medicine graduate and her husband Larry Albert in 1985. After a long and accomplished veterinary career Dr. White retired and sold the practice to her longtime associate Dr. Melissa Wyatt and Dr. Rebecca Smyka in 2021.  Dr. White and her husband continue to raise highland cattle on their farm in Charlotte, MI.

Dr. Wyatt is a 1997 University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine graduate. When Dr. White stepped back Dr. Wyatt came on as the primary veterinarian in 2017.  Dr. Wyatt is thrilled to continue Dr. White’s legacy and serve the clients and pets of Grand Ledge & the surrounding community. She loves meeting new clients, working on challenging medical cases, performing surgery & has a special interest in dentistry.

Dr. Rebecca Smyka is a 2008 graduate of the Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Rebecca will mostly be found working at Eastwood Veterinary Hospital (Eaton Rapids, MI) and Lake Lansing Road Animal Clinic  (Lansing, MI). Her passions include surgery, dentistry, & ultrasonography.

Our team is committed to educating our clients on how to keep your pets healthy year round, with good nutrition and exercise. Grand Ledge Veterinary Hospital stays on top of the latest advances in veterinary technology and above all, remembers that all animals and pets need to be treated with loving care in every check-up, procedure, or surgery.

We are happy to offer a number of resources that enable you to learn about how to take better care of your pets. Please feel free to browse our site, particularly the informational articles. The best veterinary care for animals is ongoing nutrition and problem prevention, so becoming knowledgeable about preventative pet care is essential to the ongoing success of your animal’s health.
